Vision by Arco
Envisioning Vision: the story of a future classic.
Vision was conceived in 1985 and holds a special place in design history. It was created for Pastoe by Karel Boonzaaijer and Pierre Mazairac a renowned Dutch design team. Boonzaaijer and Mazairac initially did not focus on making a cupboard, but on an abstract investigation into surfaces, proportions and storage spaces, independent of production restrictions such as production standards.
Vision, arguably, represents the apex of this philosophy. While Boonzaaijer and Mazairac produced celebrated pieces for a portfolio of high-profile clients, Vision remains a career-defining design.
An icon of design and functionality.
The Vision cabinet collection is more than a piece of furniture. Ahead of its time, Vision is striking for its minimalism. It is an icon of design and functionality. The seamless integration of handleless doors, combined with the 45-degree facets, resulted in a groundbreaking form, offering a supremely satisfying click every time you use its doors. Realizing this level of detail and precision requires high-quality engineering.
Unusually for the era, Vision is a modular system comprising identical surfaces—front, sides, top, and bottom—meaning that individual Vision components can be arranged freely according to need. Together, these features permit an astonishing range of possibilities, from simple solutions to sculptural "landscapes." In other words, there's a Vision for every vision.
Arco’s Vision: a gradual introduction.
Vision is a renowned design, and Arco is excited to make it widely available. In order to do so, Arco will introduce Vision step by step, carefully integrating it into the company’s existing collection of handcrafted tables, and the objects that complement them. This approach allows Arco to upscale the existing Vision, including sustainability improvements like certified wood (standard across all Arco products), a wider variety of colours, and a guarantee that each Vision will be of the highest quality. More refinements will follow soon.
Vision Selected
Vision Selected is a carefully curated series of Vision cabinets. Selected comprises three models, representing the most popular variations from Vision’s long history. They come in four colours, all lacquer-based. Additionally, the Vision Selected 1 offers three accent colours (both lacquer and oak veneer).
The Vision Selected range is already available at a selection of Dutch and Belgian dealers. In April of 2025, a full roll-out will follow, with a second line, Vision Modules, debuting internationally at the Salone del Mobile in Milan.
Selected 1, 2 and 3.
The Vision Selected 1 is an elegant cabinet available in three elegant color combinations—white, deep brown, and clay. It features a primary color complemented by three accent tones in lacquer and oak veneer, mounted on a finely textured black frame measuring 18 cm in height.
Vision Selected 2 is a hanging cupboard composed of repeating modules, each consisting of a drawer, a hinge and two doors. Vision Selected 2 comes with optional cable management, ensuring that extraneous wires don’t disrupt its clean, precisely engineered lines.
The Vision Selected 3 is a freestanding cupboard composed of repeating modules, each consisting of a drawer, a hinge and two doors. Mounted on a finely textured black frame measuring 18 cm in height, this cabinet is crafted from wood certified to meet rigorous environmental standards, as are the others in the Selected range. Both the Vision Selected 2 and the Vision Selected 3 are available in a single lacquer colour, applied throughout to both front and back surfaces, without accents. Color choices currently encompass white, beige, clay and black-grey (Arco’s newest color). The palette will be expanded in 2025.
