Miriam van der Lubbe

Miriam van der Lubbe was born in Nijmegen in the Netherlands in 1972. She holds degrees from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam and the Design Academy in Eindhoven. "Our work raises questions. We work with products and shapes that people recognise and add qualities without losing essential characteristics. Our designs change the way people see things and challenge them to look at the world around them in a different way."

Miriam van der Lubbe's interpretation of the Arco slogan 'no detail is too small when every detail is important' resulted in 'arcoration', an approach that had already been applied in another context: flaws in the wood are transformed into a key aesthetic feature. Hence the Silver Knot Table - a unique product created by means of 'arcoration'. Miriam designed this table for the Arco12 Exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Arnhem in 2005, held to mark the occasion of Arco's 100th anniversary. Barcodes call for a different approach. Rather than putting a sticker on the product it is possible use two different types of wood to make the barcode part of the design, as demonstrated in Code.
