Jonathan Prestwich
After gaining a university degree in industrial design in 1995, Jonathan left England and went to work in a design studio in Boston Massachusetts in the United States. He spent the next two years working on lighting and seating, and, while gaining valuable experience, he also became very excited about the design process.
Jonathan then moved to France and spent the next six years working for Burkhard Vogtherr. This was initially intended to be a brief experience but the more Jonathan and Burkhard worked together the more their working relationship deepened. During this period, which was much like a traditional apprenticeship, Jonathan learned firsthand from a highly respected designer.
In 2003 Jonathan moved back to London. He worked with Barber Osgerby for a brief period then set up his own studio in 2004. Working with other designers was an excellent way to gain experience of how a product is developed and knowledge of what makes a product a good product. Jonathan combines this experience with his desire to design products for the next generation of users, fusing influences from nature and modern technology, with the aim of creating simple, elegant and innovative products. Since ting up his own studio Jonathan has worked with several highly respected international companies that produce innovative products and has won numerous awards for his designs, including the Wallpaper Magazine Award, the Interior Innovation Award and the highly prestigious iF Gold Award.
